“A ship is safe in the harbor. But that’s not what ships are built for.”
I really love this quote. It’s oddly comforting when I’m thinking about doing something new and a little scary.
But I’m an aerospace nerd, not a maritime nerd, so I like to rewrite it a bit:
“An airplane is safe on the ground. But that’s not what airplanes are built for.”
Airplanes aren’t built to avoid all risk. They’re built to take to the air, push through the hazards, and fulfill whatever job we’ve designed them for.
And also—sometimes they’re not even safe on the ground!
If you’ve been playing it safe: putting off starting a project, or reaching out to someone, or taking a big leap in your career…
Something might make the decision for you, so just do the brave thing anyway!
